Cruise Two weeks after returning from Japan we went to Hawaii for 10 days. Seven of the days we would be cruising through the Hawaiian Islands aboard NCLs Pride of America, the rest of the days would be spent on Kauai with the Gus and Cris. We arrived to Hawaii as scheduled no emergency stops thank goodness. Paul did however, lose a crown while up in the air but thanks to Jaclyn (a cousin) and all her contacts in Honolulu we were able to see a dentist as soon as we landed and take care of the situation. That evening we had dinner with Gus, Chris and Jaclyn then went back to the hotel to rest. The next morning The family picked us up at the hotel and took us on a grand tour of the island of Oahu then in the afternoon to the docks so we could board the cruise ship.

Our first stop was Maui where we spend 2 days. We had an amazing time driving our yellow convertible corvette down the road to Hana then up to Haleakala to watch an amazing sunset. The next day we woke up bright an early to snorkel Molokini Crater where we had an unfortunate accident. The housing on our video camera leaked and was no longer working. Once arriving back on land we went in search of a new video camera. We found one at Sears. With the new camera on hand we drove up the coast to Lahaina then to Iao Valley State Park.

Next stop was The Big Island where we made 2 stops, Hilo and Kona. In Hilo we had an AM tour to Volcanoes National Park then in the afternoon we took a helicopter ride over the active volcano. We spent the evening traveling around the island to the dry side (Kona) and viewing an amazing lava flow into the ocean. The beaches at Kona were beautiful. We rented a car and drove up the coast to Hapuna Beach and Wailea Bay where we found some fabulous snorkeling spots. We then drove down the coast to check out the black sand beaches south of Kona. We were not impressed. The beaches north of Kona are much more beautiful in our opinion.

Our last stop was Kauai where we disembarked and spent a few days visiting the family. We visited the entire beautiful island, from the beaches at Polihale to Kee which are at opposite ends of the Na Pali Coast. In other words at the end of the road the circles the island. The road ends at the Na Pali coast because the terrain is to steep and rugged to construct a highway. We also drove to the Waimea Canyon, which is often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. A boat trip down the Na Pali coast aboard a zodiac was also part of our adventure.

We spent our last day in Honolulu where we visited Pearl Harbor. We went out to the USS Arizona Memorial, toured the Missouri Battleship, boarded the Bowfin submarine and had a private tour of a Hanger in Pacific Aviation Musuem. We also had a chance to go to a Luau at the hotel. The day after we returned home it was time for me to go back to work. Summer was officially over!

Cruise We took a tour of the French Riviera. Our first stop was Eze, a medieval town on the top of a mountain. It was full of stores and little streets with lots of flowers. We then headed over to Monaco where we visited the Monte Carlo Casino (it was not open yet, so we were unable to go inside), and walked around Monaco, which was beautiful. Our last stop was the town of Juan les Pin. We walked along the beach and visited some stores.

Cruise Today, we took a train ride (no air conditioning) from Livorno (the port city) to Florence. Florence was very hot and crowded. We visited the Medici Chapel, El Duomo (a large cathedral made of marble with excavations underneath it), the Galleria dell' Accademia to see the statue of David, and walked over to the Ponte Vecchio (a bridge full of jewelry stores).

Cruise Today was another long day. We left the ship at 7:30 AM and didn't get back till 5:30 PM. Our morning started out with a few problems. Aba lost her Sea Card to get on and off the ship, the bus was 15 minutes late, there was an accident on the highway into Rome, and the line to get into the Vatican Museum was several blocks long. However, thanks to our tour guide, these issues were non-impacting, and the rest of the day was completely smooth in Rome. We went to: St. Peter's church, Vatican City, Piazza Novona, Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, and the Spanish Steps. As for the Vatican Museum (the one with the long line), we returned later in the afternoon and were able to enter and see the Sistine Chapel with no line.

Cruise Today we had a 10 hour tour. We visited Capri, Sorrento, and Pompeii. Our first stop was Capri where Paul and I broke off from the rest of the group and went to visit the Blue Grotto. It was quite an experience boarding the little row boats and then entering the cave through a tiny opening. The water inside the grotto is an amazing blue color. Our next stop was Sorrento where we had lunch. We had some free time to walk around. The town was very nice and had gorgeous views. Our final stop was Pompeii. I had no idea the city was so large. We only were able to visit a small part. The city though, is amazing. We saw frescoes still on the wall, preserved bodies, and houses. We had a very busy day!!

Cruise We stopped at the island of Santorini, in the Aegean Sea. It is/was a volcano, with a collapsed caldera. We tendered in, and took a "burro" (donkeys) up the steep side of the cliff to the city. Wonderful views of the island, and the sunset. The houses are built into the cliff; hopefully I will upload a picture. Lunch was at another Greek restaurant, on the beach.

Cruise We arrived in the busy city of Athens and took a tour to see the Acropolis. The Parthenon sites atop the Acropolis overlooking the city. We saw several of the Olympic stadiums, and toured a museum. Next, we went into the old town to eat lunch at a small secluded Greek restaurant. I think Gloria really likes Greek food, but I doesn't really excite me.

Cruise We visited the town of Dubrovnik, a walled-in city, which sits along-side the Adriatic Sea. We visited the many stores and churches, and walked along the top of the wall, taking in views of the water - which was beautiful.
We had our first day at sea, where we both got massages.
